Updated 20/04/22: Hulu have debuted an impressive poster for New Horizons.

With the countdown now on to The Orville Season 3 – dubbed The Orville: New Horizons – it’s new streaming home have released an eye-catching poster to promote the show: “New Home, New Missions”.

Featuring the ships of the show’s various races, the Orville is joined by a Union fighter and a Moclan cruiser. In terms of antagonists, there’s a Krill fighter as well as a both a Kaylon interceptor and cruiser. Whether this gives us any hints for the seasons plot-lines – who knows. Starting out as the show’s primary menace, the Krill faded in comparison to the non-biological threat of the Kaylon, Issac’s own race.

Unfortunately, the season’s synopsis is pretty generic too:

Set 400 years in the future, “The Orville: New Horizons” finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

The last hurrah?

Whether New Horizons is the last hurrah for The Orville remains to be seen with its cast and creator moving on to other projects. Regardless, the show begins on Hulu on Thursday, 2nd of June for an 11 episode season. While shorter in length than the previous runs, each episode will have a longer duration pushing them up to the full hour.

Outside of the US, we expect it to land under the Star banner on Disney+, although that has yet to be confirmed.

The Orville – Season 3 delayed but there’s a new epic promo

Season 3 of The Orville, now re-christened The Orville: New Horizons, was due to launch in March. However, creator and star Seth McFarlane has taken to twitter to announce that date has been pushed back to June.

The show, which began as a gag-filled take on 1980’s and 90s Star Trek has become a popular hit in its own right. Acknowledging the fans’ frustration at the latest delay, MacFarlane promises the new episodes will be “worth the wait” and references ‘production challenges” as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

An epic battle

Throwing us a bone, which only serves to increase the anticipation, he then shared a frankly awesome sneak-peak; a mighty battle sequence which sees the Orville as one of a fleet of many Union ships under fire. As the conflict ensures outside, we follow the elder of Marcus – the elder of Dr Finn’s sons. He fights his way across the ship, overcoming numerous obstacles, to reach his younger brother, before there’s a shocking conclusion.

It’s a truly epic sequence set to a pounding orchestral score. How it fits into the story however, be it for real or a nightmarish dream sequence, remains to be seen. Regardless, it showcases the show’s level of ambition.

The preview concludes with a look at the show’s new title sequence, which also namechecks a new cast member; Anne Winters (13 Reasons Why) is joining the show as Ensign Charly Burke, and she’s at the controls here:

Plus there’s Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes), Dr. Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald), Lt. Cmdr Bortus (Peter Macon), John LaMarr (J. Lee), Issac (Mark Jackson), Klyden (Chad L. Coleman), Lt. Talla Keyali (Jessica Szohr) and the late Norm Macdonald as Yaphit.

The Orville: New Horizons will now land on Hulu on the 2nd of June 2022.

In the UK, the show previously aired on the now defunct Fox. The first two seasons available on are Disney+, so we expect the new episodes will be made available there.
