The Book of Life is coming to Disney+ this week (UK)

20th Century Fox (now part of Disney) released the Book of Life in 2014 and subscribers will soon be able to enjoy this charming Mexican folklore tale

The UK (along with Australia, Canada and New Zealand) are getting The Book of Life this Friday January 22, while US viewers have to wait until Friday February 19.

The synopsis is brief and a little dark:

In a bid to save the love of his life, Manolo sacrifices himself and is transported to the Land of the Remembered, where he reunites with his dead ancestors and strives to get his life back

In fact the film is a family comedy, taking ideas from the Mexican Day of the Dead festivities. It features the voices of Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum, Christina Applegate, Ice Cube, Ron Perlman, and Kate del Castillo. It took $99million against a $50million budget and received a Golden Globe nomination and currently shows an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes. What this all means is it’s a good fit for Disney and we can expect more in the way of Fox titles coming to the platform, currently dominated by Star Wars and Marvel. As ever we’ll keep you posted.
