Netflix has released The Dig trailer along with basic details of the film

As WWII looms, a wealthy widow (Carey Mulligan) hires an amateur archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When they make a historic discovery, the echoes of Britain’s past resonate in the face of its uncertain future‎. The Dig stars Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin, and Ken Scott. In Select cinemas January 15 and on Netflix January 29.

The film is based on John Preston’s 2007 novel of the same name, and based on the story of the excavation of Sutton Hoo. John Preston also wrote A Very English Scandal about the Jeremy Thorpe affair, which was made into a TV series in 2018.
