The BBC have given us our first look at their forthcoming adaptation of Andrea Levy’s The Long Song, which will air either at the end of the year or early 2019…
The Long Song is set during the final days of slavery in 19th century Jamaica and tells the story of the strong-willed, young slave July on a plantation owned by her odious mistress Caroline Mortimer. When a charming new arrival to the island, Robert Goodwin, becomes the new overseer, July and Caroline are both intrigued by his seemingly revolutionary determination to improve the plantation for the slaves and mistress alike.
It’s set to star Tamara Lawrance, Hayley Atwell, Lenny Henry, Doña Croll, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Ayesha Antoine, Arinzé Kene, Ansu Kabia, Jordan Bolger, Joy Richardson, Madeleine Mantock and Leo Bill. The entire three-part series will be directed by Mahalia Belo and written by Sarah Williams.
With a release date likely coming soon the BBC have revealed a first look picture of the series, which shows Lawrance’s July…
