The Reluctant Vampire – first look released

Posted Filed under

A first peek at the new BBC comedy has been released alongside story and cast details, here’s what we know about The Reluctant Vampire:

In a post-Twilight world, the idea of successful vampire media hasn’t stopped manifesting in different iconic films and shows. From the cinematic and serialised hit that is What We Do in the Shadows, to the current reimagined reboot of Interview with a Vampire, storylines with undead, fanged leads show no sign of slowing down in today’s media landscape.

What’s The Reluctant Vampire about?

The series will follow Val, a vampire hiding an enormous secret – he’s not truly one of the undead.  As he tries to understand what life means for a human amongst his ancient family, plenty of hurdles and twists lay in store as our lead vampire tries to find himself. His leering father burdens him with the old traditions and practices of their vampire roots, whilst Val has to stay out of the suspicious gaze of his brother. The only one who knows his true identity, his mother, does her best by giving very unhelpful advice.

Who’s in it?

The case for the upcoming show features names and faces with plenty of comedy experience under their belts. The list includes Tom Davis (Murder in Successville), Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Gabriel Nagy (Extra Geography), Sian Clifford (Fleabag), Bill Bailey (Black Books), Ross Noble (QI), Joe Wilkinson (After Life), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Charlie Cooper (This Country), Ellie-May Sheridan (Dodger) and Esther Smith (Trying).

When’s it out?

The series is set to release on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
