A first proper look at The War Of The Worlds has now arrived…

The BBC’s new adaptation of The War Of The Worlds, which is being heralded as the most faithful version of H.G. Wells’ seminal sci-fi yarn to ever make it onto the screen, now has a first trailer.

Although the most recent movie version of Wells’ novel was an American blockbuster set in the modern day, Wells’ original story was set in the Surrey suburbs of Edwardian England, and in this adaptation, Poldark’s Emma Tomlinson and Pete Versus Life’s Rafe Spall play Amy and George, a couple that gets caught up in the destruction of the Martian invasion of Earth. The cast of the three-part drama also features Robert Carlyle and Rupert Graves.

Director Craig Viveiros (And Then There Were None) says that this adaptation of The War Of The Worlds is “the first version to be set in London and the Home Counties during the Edwardian period.”

Writer Peter Harness (Doctor Who, McMafia) said this in his own statement:

“The version of The War Of The Worlds that I wanted to make is one that’s faithful to the tone and the spirit of the book, but which also feels contemporary, surprising and full of shocks: a collision of sci-fi, period drama and horror.”

The War Of The Worlds  premieres soon on BBC One.
