The Watcher tops the Nielsens

The Watcher tops the Nielsens on a good week for The Rings of Power

Ryan Murphy’s The Watcher knocks Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer off the top in the Nielsens for October 10-16 with the finale of Rings of Power holding onto number two

We’ve studied the Nielsen audience measures for US streaming original series in the week October 10-16, and we have to say they match our expectations from last week quite well:

numbers show The Watcher displacing Dahmer for Netflix at the top of the table, good figures for The Midnight Club and possible new entries including The Sinner season 4. Will Andor still be in the list? Can She-Hulk manage another week in the chart?

Here’s the data…

The Nielsens for original series (US) October 10-16

We add the columns marked ‘*’.

The Watcher is a new entry at #1, The Rings of Power holds #2

As expected, one Ryan Murphy show replaced the other at the top of the chart (and we understand more will follow) as The Watcher easily topped the table with over two billion minutes watched in the first few days. This is only a fraction more than Dahmer gained last week in its first full week, and that show made over four billion on its first outing.

In the midst of all that, Prime Video’s The Rings of Power came to its dramatic conclusions and not only made the #2 slot (again) but also gained the size of audience it had only seen at the start of the season.

Dragonwatch

We have to check the acquired series category to get figures for House of the Dragon, and this time round its 9 episodes brought HBO Max 960, million minutes, so on our table above, slotting in just above The Midnight Club.

What else happened?

Star Wars - Diego Luna as Cassian Andor

Andor sneaks up the chart

The chart matches our projection well, with She-Hulk and Andor in mid-table slots. Looking back to last time, they’ve both gained audience, while Cora Kai looks to be fading away. The Midnight Club did improve from its first week, while The Handmaid’s Tale is keeping steady on Hulu. For the second week, there were no real surprises.

What are we expecting next?

The Peripheral - key art
The Peripheral

The Netflix numbers show The Watcher and Dahmer doing well, with other shows falling back and The Sinner season 4 making progress. We expect The Rings of Power to fall back a little and are still following She-Hulk and Andor in the chart. This will also be the first week for the (excellent) Prime Video show The Peripheral and we’d love to see (but aren’t holding out breaths) the third season of the equally excellent War of the Worlds. We’ll be back next time.
