There’s an official trailer for David Oyelowo’s The Water Man ahead of the film’s May release

The Waterman marks David Oyelowo’s debut as a director. He’s more known as an actor and has appeared in Midnight Sky and was remarkable as Inspector Javert in the recent TV adaptation of Les Misérables. Not only does he direct this latest film, but also appears in it as well.

The official synopsis for the film is:

Gunner (Lonnie Chavis) sets out on a quest to save his ill mother (Rosario Dawson) by searching for a mythic figure who possesses the secret to immortality, the Water Man. After enlisting the help of a mysterious local girl, Jo (Amiah Miller), they journey together into the remote Wild Horse forest — but the deeper they venture, the stranger and more dangerous the forest becomes. Their only hope for rescue is Gunner’s father (David Oyelowo), who will stop at nothing to find them…

The film was written by Emma Needell and hits the cinemas (we assume US only but we will update as we get more information) on May 7. On the strength of the trailer we imagine this won’t be Oyelowo’s only project as a director.
