The Winter King – first trailer for new Arthurian adaptation

The show is based on Bernard Cornwell’s novel, the first of his Warlord Chronicles book series.

Thanks to the show’s American home of MGM+, we now have our first look at The Winter King. The series, coming to ITVX in the UK, is a take on Arthurian legend adapted from the books of Bernard Cornwell.

The Winter King takes place in the fifth century, long before Britain was united, in a land of warring factions and tribes. It follows the evolution of Arthur Pendragon from outcast to legendary warrior and leader.

We learned of the show’s cast back in November, which is led by Iain De Caestecker as Arthur Pendragon. It also stars Eddie Marsan as High King Uther, Ellie James as Nimue, Nathaniel Martello-White as Merlin, Stuart Campbell as Derfel, Daniel Ings as Owain, Valene Kane as Morgan, Jordan Alexandra as Guinevere and Simon Merrells as Gundleus.

The wider ensemble includes Steven Elder, Andrew Gower, Aneirin Hughes, Emily John, Tatjana Nardone, Ken Nwosu and Billy Postlethwaite.

The Winter King comes from Bad Wolf, in association with One Big Picture. The ten-episode series launches on MGM+ on August 20th, but we’re still waiting on ITVX to reveal a date.

We’ll keep you posted.
