The actor is going to direct a “funny and honest” comedy pilot with the title They F**k You Up.
In news reported via Deadline, it seems that Peter Capaldi is set to pull on his director’s cap once more.
The star, who has an Oscar for his short film Franz Kafka’s It’s A Wonderful Life, also directed the first two seasons of the caustic NHS sitcom Getting On.
They F**k You Up
Now, he’s turning an eye to parenting with the comedy They F**k You Up. The show adapts Sarah Naish’s memoir But He Looks So Normal: A Bad-Tempered Parenting Guide for Adopters and Foster Parents.
Adapted by Thomas Eccleshare, the story follows a mother who adopts five children. The book is described as a “is a self-confessed bad-tempered guide to raising kids.” They F**k You Up comes from Tod Productions, the STV Studios-backed company founded by Vera producer Elaine Collins, and Sky Studios.
A non-broadcast pilot shoots early in 2023, while writer Eccleshare is penning two further half-hour episodes. Elaine Collins executive produces with Anil Gupta, Sky Studios’ Creative Director of Comedy. Katie Churchill produces.
Criminal Record
The writer previously collaborated with both Tod Productions and Peter Capaldi on the forthcoming Criminal Record. That show, for Apple TV+, sees Capaldi and Cush Jumbo as rival detectives at loggerheads over a historic murder conviction.
