The science fiction drama lands on the streamer this May.

Ahead of its launch next month, Prime Video have debuted a trailer for Night Sky. Starring Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, the show was previously known as Lightyears and was set to star Ed O’Neill.

Here’s the premise…

Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene (Sissy Spacek) and Franklin York (J.K. Simmons), a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet.

They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended…and the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.

Provoking a myriad of questions, this one has shot straight to the top of our watchlist!

A beautiful escapist dream fantasy

Thanks to an interview in Town & Country with showrunner Daniel C Longmire, we’ve learned a little more:

“There’s this toggling back and forth between in the story of the mundane of everyday life—going to doctor’s office and food shopping—mixed with this beautiful escapist dream fantasy.”

We also read that the story later expands to feature a mother-daughter duo, who live in rural Argentina, in addition to the Yorks.

Joining Spacek and Simmons in the cast are Chai Hansen, Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández and Adam Bartley. Additionally, Beth Lacke, Stephen Louis Grush and Cass Buggé will also appear.

Night Sky comes from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television. Its writer and co-executive producer is Holden Miller, with Daniel C. Connolly (Longmire, The Son) showrunning and executive producing too. Jimmy Miller. Sam Hansen and Philip Martin (The Crown) serve as executive producers too.

All eight episodes arrive on Prime Video on Friday the 20th of May.
