Russian Doll Season 2 – full trailer lands teasing “broken time”

Posted Filed under

Nadia is back in a different sort of temporal trap.

Last month brought us a first teaser for Russian Doll season 2, now we’ve a full trailer ahead of the show’s launch on April the 20th.

Set four years after the first series, and more than three in real life, the much-anticipated second run of the show promises more puzzles; it appears that Nadia is now a bona fide time traveller, rather than just stuck looping within a single day.

“Inexplicable things happening is my entire modus operandi.”

Referring to herself as a “time prisoner”, there’s a subway ride leading Nadia into her new puzzle. Ominously, a poster for the movie Sophie’s Choice is on the carriage wall, perhaps presaging an impossible decision ahead. The trailer then goes on to talk of a family losing its gold twice on a train…

Whatever’s going on, if the first series is anything to go be, it will be a hell of a ride!

For the new season, the show brings back Alan (Charlie Barnett), as well as adding Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy to the ensemble. Murphy’s character has been described as being “the heart of the season”.

A wild ride

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Natasha Lyonne (who’s also the show’s creator) has discussed the new run:

“It’s definitely a wild ride. It is deep, and deeply off-the-wall. I genuinely think the joy of the game is to watch it with fresh eyes as much as you can in order to be taken by the story.”

Spoiling nothing, she goes on to make an interesting movie reference. Alluding to the appeal of The Neverending Story she talks about enjoying “…saddling up with a book in the attic and letting that world take you away on a journey,” Before saying “I do have this dream that people get to do that with this show.”

It won’t be long until we see if she gets her wish – Russian Doll season 2 arrives on Wednesday, 20th April.
