FX have dropped an first teaser trailer for their upcoming true-crime mini-series. Under the Banner of Heaven stars Andrew Garfield as a Utah detective and Mormon whose faith is challenged during a murder investigation.

Here’s the synopsis:

Under the Banner of Heaven is a limited series inspired by Jon Krakauer’s true crime bestseller of the same name. A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government.

Andrew Garfield will star as “Pyre,” an LDS elder who is committed to his Church and family but begins to question some of the Church’s teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as “Brenda,” a young faithful Mormon who is the victim of a brutal murder.

“The evidence points to things and to beliefs that I’ve only ever heard whisperings about.”

With strained tones from Andrew Garfield, and a tense soundtrack, this drama this looks to be a must-watch.

Joining Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones, the wider cast includes Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie, Sandra Seacat and Christopher Heyerdahl.

Dustin Lance Black (Milk) adapts and David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) directs. Additionally, Black is an executive producer, as are Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

Under the Banner of Heaven is a limited series for FX/Hulu, expected to air in the next few months. There’s no release date yet though, or confirmation of a UK broadcaster. We’ll keep you posted.
