The fifth and final season of Van Helsing starts today (Apr 16) on Syfy — no details yet on a UK date
Promising the mother of all endings, the hit show is back for its fifth and final season, and Tricia Helfer (Lucifer, Battlestar Galactica) is very much the centre of attention. In case you’ve not watched it yet, we bring you up to speed.
What is Van Helsing about?
In a post-apocalyptic near future. Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, awakens from a coma after her supposed death to find herself in a post-apocalyptic world, three years after an eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera had blanketed the world in ash, blocking out sunlight and allowing vampires to overrun humanity. She is humanity’s last hope, as her unique blood composition gives her the ability to turn vampires human.
Season 1 (2016) is all about understanding this new world as Vanessa learns who she is. Season 2 gives more backstory and a sister for Vanessa named Scarlet. Season 3 gives its episodes titles from Soundgarden songs, and flashbacks into Vanessa’s ancestry as she hunts the Elder vampires. Season 4 takes the story to the biggest vampire of all, the Dark One (aka Dracula). There’s a lot more to it, with plenty of blood, character moments, and blood. Did we mention the blood?
