UK Van Helsing fans have had to avoid spoilers, but now they can tuck in as Van Helsing season 5 is released today on Netflix
Great news for UK fans as we’ve not had a huge time to wait since the fifth, and final, season was released in the US.
How did season 4 end?
Overall the previous season was about change. Many characters we’d watched across the previous seasons either died or reached a resolution in their story arcs. At least one Van Helsing died, and Vanessa herself (Kelly Overton) was also taken offstage several episodes before the end.
We also learned a little of the world outside the rule of vampires, and the show feels very different now from when it began. It’s still balancing the mythic with the scientific (ie vampires are supernatural vs it’s a virus of some sort) and we’ve met a few more vampire variants.
Not only did we lose several familiar characters, but we gained new ones, including two younger Van Helsings we’d never known about before. Their introduction was a little forced, but they do add to the story,
The biggest addition of all is the arrival of Dracula, as played by Tricia Helfer (Lucifer, Battlestar Galactica.) Reservations about the lever of resetting the show aside, Helfer is superb as the vampire’s vampire, and we’ve only begun to glimpse her plans for domination.
You can watch Van Helsing season 5 now on Netflix or rent on CinemaParadiso.
