After a submarine and a drone facility, Vigil is bound for a remote Arctic research station.
Over the past two series, World Productions’ Vigil has made a virtue of putting its stars in closely confined locations. The show takes its name from the submarine setting of the season 1, before the
drama came on land for series 2.
Now, the BBC has revealed the location for the show’s third run and confirmed the return of its two leads.
Here’s what we know about Vigil series 3:
Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie return as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre. Their new case takes them to a remote Arctic research station, where a member of a covert British special forces mission has been shot dead.
Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and diffuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land-grab for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line.
Writer Tom Edge says:
“I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning for a new adventure. In our third season we travel to the frozen north where the world’s great powers are competing to secure advantages as the ice melts. With a brilliant cast and crew assembling to make the show, we hope to deliver an epic investigation that shines a light on issues that will shape the world we all live in.”
The show comes from World Productions (Showtrial, Line of Duty), part of ITV Studios, for BBC One and iPlayer. The producer is Marcus Wilson, and associate producer is George Aza-Selinger.
Series 3 of Vigil starts filming in Scotland later in the year. We’ll keep you posted.
The first two seasons of Vigil are still on BBC iPlayer.
