The chat show host takes the legendary gameshow for a spin in 2024.
ITV is dusting off the gameshow Wheel of Fortune for another spin. The enduring hangman-style show, an imported American format, first launched on the network in 1988 and ran until 2001.
Across fourteen seasons, the UK version burned through various frontmen including Nicky Campbell, John Leslie and Bradley Walsh. Now, Graham Norton has signed up to be master of the big wheel.
Wheel of Fortune is commissioned for eight hour-long episodes, including two celebrity specials, and promises the contestants the chance to win a life changing cash prize.
Graham Norton said:
“I’m beyond excited to be bringing such an iconic American show to a new British audience. My first ever TV job was a game show on ITV so this feels like coming full circle. You might even call it a wheel!”
It will be interesting to see if the show keeps the traditional, rather dated, format of a female co-host to turn the letters. With modern technology and Norton’s ability to banter, we’d have thought that role would be redundant now.
Wheel of Fortune is a Whisper North production for ITV1 and ITVX and will air in 2024. The Executive Producers for Whisper North are Kerri Reid and Tom McLennan.
The original U.S. show is produced by Sony Pictures Television Studios, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, which is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution along with the format rights.
