World on Fire – BBC release series 2 trailer & confirm start date

Series 2 of World on Fire adds Mark Bonnar to its cast as the war escalates.  

The BBC have released a new trailer for World on Fire, ahead of the series’ return on Sunday July 16th.

Peter Bowker’s drama tells the story of WWII through the eyes of ordinary people whose lives are thrown into chaos.

Here’s the premise for Series 2:

RAF pilots are sent to destroy German bombers prowling the skies above Manchester, with rescue operations underway on the streets below. The true reality of war has arrived in Britain.

World On Fire series two will take viewers from the streets of Britain into occupied France, Nazi Germany, and to the sands of the North African desert, where British troops struggle alongside Indian Sappers and Australian Diggers to adapt to a very different kind of combat.

The show’s confirmed returning cast include Lesley Manville as Robina, Jonah Hauer-King as Harry and Julia Brown as Lois. Also, Zofia Wichlacz as Kasia, Blake Harrison as Stan, Eugénie Derouand as Henriette, Eryk Biedunkiewicz as Jan and Cel Spellman as Joe.

New faces for World on Fire series 2:

Joining the show are Mark Bonnar as Sir James Danemere, Ahad Raza Mir as Rajib, Gregg Sulkin as David and Miriam Schiweck as Marga. The BBC have released character images here.

Mammoth Screen produce World on Fire for the BBC and MASTERPIECE. The show’s writers are Peter Bowker (series creator), Rachel Bennette and Matt Jones. It’s producers are Amanda Black and Angie Daniell; directors are Drew Casson, Barney Cokeliss and Meenu Gaur.

Executive producers are Peter Bowker, Sheena Bucktowonsing, Damien Timmer, Charlotte Webber and Helen Ziegler for Mammoth Screen in association with ITV Studios. Also, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and Susanne Simpson and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE.

The show’s first seven-part series has recently returned to BBC iPlayer.

World on Fire Series 2 launches on BBC One and iPlayer, with the first episode airing on Sunday 16th July.
