You dominates the Nielsens

You dominates a slow week at the Nielsens

Posted Filed under

Hit series You dominates the latest Nielsens, and keeps the #1 spot for  third week

Numbers are well down from the eye-popping levels we’ve seen recently, and You dominates the latest Nielsen ratings. The top 4 are little changed from last week, when we predicted:

You will reach 800±150

Locke & Key 750±100

Squid Game also 750±100

It’s tight so we suggest Locke & Key will displace You into second.

We got the numbers, but the range was so wide we failed to get the order. It’s worth spending a little time digging deeper, and this week we’ve outsourced the data processing to a Nigerian prince who made contact with us — it turns out he’s a big fan of the site and wants to help us out, once he gets his millions freed by the international banks. Until them we’ve lent him the money to buy some computers.

The Nielsen data for 1-7 November 2021

As ever this is US data from a few weeks ago, we add the columns marked ‘*’.

You dominates the chart

Despite our estimated tolerances, You was comfortable at the top of the chart and the margin was large.

What else happened?

Numbers (as we’ve said) were low compared to recent weeks and this allowed Squid Game to grab #2, pushing Locke & Key down. The chart is very Netflix controlled now, with just Ted Lasso holding on. It’s a while before we see the impact of Hawkeye.

Our main take away is how fast Locke & Key is fading, and Squid Game is dropping off fast as well.

What about next week?

It’s another week before we see some favourite CultBox shows appear, and we predict a general falling off for all out top 4. In the absence of a clear new title (and this looks like a very fillable gap), we see You holding top 2, and the others all falling. Squid Game could drop into the lower half as well. Whatever happens, we’ll be back with our usual analysis.

Meanwhile…

We may stop predicting soon, as Netflix has launched a Top 10 site with far more up to date numbers than the Nielsens (running only a week behind). As most charting titles are theirs, making a prediction on the Nilesens seems superfluous.
