Taking viewers behind the scenes of a 1956 broadcast news room, Abi Morgan’s new drama series The Hour continues with its second episode this week.
Airing at 9pm on Tuesday 26th July on BBC Two, Episode 2 sees ‘The Hour’ struggling; the ratings are down, the reviews are terrible and Hector and Freddie are bickering like children. As the team prepare for what will be their most risky programme yet, Bel and Hector are brought closer together under the watchful presence of Hector’s wife, Marnie.
Here are ten teasing lines of dialogue from the episode…
» “Next week, do better. Please do better. Because if you don’t, then Freddie wins 12 shillings and my entire Bill Hayley collection.”
» “It’s not personal. I just don’t like the privileged.”
» “We need to work on your links today. Say more, smile less.”
» “First rule: you don’t make tea.”
» “I didn’t ask for you… Like most things in this corporation, people just arrive and you’re expected to accept them, no questions asked.”
» “In a democracy, the only thing one can be right about is the right to ask the question. And the real question is; do we live in a democracy? Or under the illusion of one?”
» “1933. Vernon Bartlett, discussing Hitler’s decision to leave the League of Nations. Most powerful thing I’ve ever heard. It pulled me out of that drab little room and into the middle of a crisis. As if I were sitting with them at the table. That’s how it should be!”
» “Darling, please don’t become one of those women who feels the need to have a career and not a life.”
» “I run a news programme. It’s my job to cover the news. That’s what I intend to do tonight. Anything else is reckless.”
» “‘He knows.’“
