‘One for all and all for one’ – even for those of us, of a certain age, who wish to follow this line with the assertion that ‘Muskehounds are always ready’, there can be little doubt that Dumas’ most famous novel has proven an endlessly fruitful inspiration to successive generations of adapters. There was even a 1928 musical with lyrics by P. G. Wodehouse!

‘Doctor Who’: Our hopes for Peter Capaldi’s era

Steven Moffat said recently: “If Russell [T Davies] had stayed on, [Doctor Who] would still have changed. And actually, it is time again to do that… So now we’ve got to actually get a bit raw at it and do it in a different direction.”

What are the things that Moffat and co have got a bit too good at? What do we now expect from a Doctor Who story? What is it time to lose?
