Alan Partridge’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ commentary

Partridge and Bond go together like lager, gin and Baileys in a Ladyboy cocktail. One is an all-time national hero, a cultural icon whose prowess with the ladies is only matched by his beyond-the-call-of-duty dedication to Great Britain, and the other is a fictional spy played by Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

If Bond knew about Partridge, he’d be a fan. Sadly, as he doesn’t, it’s the other way around, and Alan once famously narrated the opening sequence of his favourite 007 film, The Spy Who Loved Me, to spectacular effect. However, nobody has ever checked the footage to establish the accuracy of his descriptive powers. Until now…

Pretty good, although the piping is more orange than lemon on the ‘Russian shits’. But if all Bond audio commentaries were like that, we’d be buying the new Blu-ray boxset the day it comes out. Something to consider for the next reissue, perhaps?
