The long-awaited arrival of Avengers Assemble in cinemas next week has prompted the biggest outbreak of YouTube mashing-up since somebody noticed that because Darth Vader wears a helmet, dialogue from anything in the history of the world will fit if dubbed over the top.

Here, the syncing isn’t quite as good as that, but it’s surprising how well the words and sounds of the Avengers trailer fit the images from The Lord of the Rings… although Nick Fury as Elrond? Really?
