Agent Carter: Hayley Atwell won’t rule out an MCU return

Hayley Atwell, who debuted as the super spy Agent Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, isn’t ruling out a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite the tragic cutting-short of her blossoming romance with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers (which occurred at the end of The First Avenger), Atwell’s Peggy Carter has already reappeared in the Agent Carter short film, the Agent Carter TV series and the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, as well as the movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Ant-Man. Peggy’s funeral in Captain America: Civil War doesn’t seem to have dimmed Atwell’s hopes of more appearances in the MCU.

In a new interview, Atwell said this:

“Because it’s a genre-specific superhero piece, I’m sure anything could happen. It’s such a huge world. I do think there’s something in the completion of the fact that they’re doing their back-to-back Avengers at the moment, which will complete an era, so I can’t see how that would be. But that’s what’s remarkable about Marvel is they keep going. Each film tends to further what they’re doing, so I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Atwell makes a good point about Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 – there is a sense that these movies will round off the stories of the original Avengers crew. But that doesn’t mean we’ve necessarily seen the last of Peggy. With all of those Infinity Stones hanging about – one of which can alter time – anything is possible.
