Miss Marple: a new TV series is on the cards

Made Up Stories, the company behind Big Little Lies, has made a deal with Agatha Christie Limited to produce a new TV series based on the Miss Marple books. Here’s everything we know…

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Bruna Papandrea, James Prichard and Basi Akpabio will produce this new TV version of Miss Marple. The company Endeavour Content is also involved.

12 of the Miss Marple books and 20 short stories have been earmarked as inspirations for the show. The influential stories for this series include such iconic yarns as 4:50 from Paddington, The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side, A Murder is Announced and The Body in the Library.

Papandrea, one of the producers, said this:

“I’m just thrilled to be joining forces with James and Agatha Christie Ltd to reintroduce the brilliant Miss Marple to the world. Agatha Christie is a true literary legend, and her Marple character at the center of these amazing stories is a complex female heroine providing great entertainment and inspiration. It’s such an exciting opportunity to bring it all to life.”

Christie’s characters have had something of a screen resurgence in recent years, with last Christmastime’s BBC adaptation of The ABC Murders (starring John Malkovich as Poirot) providing a prime example of that.

No casting, nor a broadcaster, has been confirmed for this new project as of yet. As more news comes to light, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
