Here’s a rundown of the best and worst movies based on British TV comedies since the year 2000…

The Harry Hill Movie (2013)

The premise of this barmy film involves Harry and his nan taking their hamster on a trip to Blackpool, all the while being pursued by Harry’s evil long-lost brother.

Despite moments of ingenuity and a great comedy cast, including Julie Walters and Matt Lucas, general consensus was that The Harry Hill Movie failed to deliver and was silly without being particularly funny.

Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000)

In this film outing for the stereotypical teenagers played by Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke, the pair go on holiday to Ibiza, hoping to meet girls and become famous DJs.

With humour that really scrapes the bottom of the barrel and a central duo so one-dimensional that it’s difficult to feel any empathy for them, this film was proof that sketch show characters can rarely stretch to an hour and a half.

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie (2014)

In this cinematic outing for the popular BBC One sitcom, the titular Mrs Brown protests the opening of a new shopping centre which would replace the local market where her family has a stall.

Reviews of the film ranged from negative to even more negative, with some saying it lacked the strange charm of the TV show, and others calling it downright unfunny and embarrassing.  Fans loved it, of course, proving that comedy isn’t really made for critics.

Keith Lemon: The Film (2012)

This film follows the ‘rags to riches’ story of Leigh Francis’ alter-ego Keith Lemon, who moves from Leeds to London after becoming an overnight success.

Upon its release, it was universally slammed by critics as a lazily written, almost laugh-free film, in which Lemon is consistently loathsome, annoying and impossible to side with.
