From past Doctors returning to help save the day to villains ganging up, here’s our guide to some of Doctor Who’s most memorable team-up moments, both good and bad…
Missy and the Cybermen in ‘Dark Water’ and ‘Death in Heaven’
Missy at the head of an army of Cybermen (albeit culled from the ranks of the human dead) was a tantalising image, but despite a brilliantly dark opener, the Cybermen ended up as little more than her toy soldiers to command. Until they recruited super solder PE Teacher Danny Pink, that is.
Silurians and Sea Devils in ‘Warriors of the Deep’
Both having appeared in separate stories with Jon Pertwee, Season 21’s opener brought these two sister races of earth reptiles together in an attempt to destroy the human race in 2084… in an extrapolation of the Cold War.
Despite an interesting setting, Warriors was bedevilled by production problems and horribly over lit. It also holds a contender for the poorest realised monster ever in The Myrka.
The ultimate team-up in ‘Journey’s End’
Rounding off David Tennant’s third season, RTD packed out the final two-parter with tons of faces from his era as showrunner. Joining Donna at the Doctor’s side were returning companions Rose, Mickey, Martha and Jack – plus we also caught up with Sarah Jane, Jackie as well as generating another Doctor.
Add in cameos for SJA and Torchwood regulars, plus a redemption for former PM Harriet Jones (yes, we know who she is), and the show offered us a bonkers love-it-or-loathe-it moment with the TARDIS console crewed on all sides as it towed planet Earth back to its proper place.
