5 allies from Matt Smith’s era who should return to ‘Doctor Who’

With the ‘Paternoster Road’ gang appearing in Peter Capaldi’s debut story last year and Kate Stewart returning in Season 9’s opener, CultBox considered which of the Eleventh Doctor’s other pals we would like to encounter again…

Canton Everett Delaware III (Mark Sheppard) from ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ and ‘Day of the Moon’

Doctor Who Mark Sheppard

Despite being wound temporally into the Doctor’s apparent death we would love for Canton to make a comeback. We first met the former FBI agent in 2011, jerry can in hand to assist with the Doctor’s funeral pyre, before zipping back to 1969 and seeing him as a younger man.

As well as proving to be unflappable in the face of The Silence, his skills as a former agent would make him a useful man to call on when the Doctor next lands in the United States.

Lorna Bucket (Christina Chong) from ‘A Good Man Goes to War’

Doctor Who Lorna Bucket Christina Chong

The death of Lorna Bucket, who fought alongside the Doctor’s hastily assembled gang to rescue Amy Pond and her baby Melody, left us wanting more. Especially when, with her dying breath, she revealed that the Doctor had saved and inspired her as a child.

In a cruel twist the Doctor revealed he had never heard of her and he lied to give her comfort as she passed, but then it’s the unique curse of the time traveller to have one’s future catch up with you. We want to see the Gamma Forests and their first encounter, which involved running from a “massive, scaly creature”.
