8 ‘Doctor Who’ episodes to cheer you up

Here are a few Doctor Who episodes to elevate your spirits when you’re feeling (TARDIS) blue…

‘Vincent and the Doctor’

Doctor Who Vincent and the Doctor

Unlike many of the others on this list that cheer by way of being pure fun, this one appeals to a quieter emotion. That scene where Vincent goes to the museum always makes me go a bit wibbly.

I suppose this may be an odd choice as it’s not quite such a clear-cut happy ending, but as someone who’s been through many struggles myself, it’s comforting seeing Vincent get to see just how appreciated he was. Even if it didn’t always make everything else better, it meant something, and it made a difference. That’s lovely, and so important.

‘The Five Doctors’

Despite being only almost accurately named (what with Tom Baker only making an appearance via recycled footage from the unfinished ‘Shada’) and altogether rather silly, there’s so much to love about this festival of ridiculousness.

Thrill as Sarah Jane falls perilously down a gentle slope, marvel as unlikely teams are set with a series of escalating challenges, and wonder forever just what Turlough’s sketch of the Eye of Orion looked like. Best watched with friends, and then again with DVD commentary.
