Here are 10 Rogue One Easter eggs you may have missed…

 

Vader’s Castle

You could tell that Rogue One was trying to do something different when it briefly turned into an episode of Cribs, showing us Darth Vader’s personal sanctum. Including his audience chamber, and his chill-out room complete with a Bacta Tank so he can spend time out of his work clothes without dying.

The Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo has confirmed that the planet the castle is on (the only unnamed planet in the movie) is in fact Mustafar, the site of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s climactic duel in Revenge Of The Sith. It’s the perfect place to set up home. Where you killed your wife and ended up horribly maimed.

Both the idea and design of Vader’s Castle (complete with a lava planet) date back to unused Ralph McQuarrie concept art for The Empire Strikes Back. The idea was later used in the Expanded Universe, with Vader’s stronghold of Bast Castle being built on the acid rain-stricken world of Vjun. Weather conditions like that are probably less of an issue if you’re encased in metal 99% of the time.
