The first season of Channel 4’s new sci-fi drama Humans is over.
So without further ado, commence the installation of this list into your brain with our Top 10 moments (in no particular order)…
Vera
Part po-faced Florence Nightingale, part NHS Terminator, Vera (Rebecca Front) takes no shit, (unless her duty of care toward a patient requires the hygienic disposal of bowel movements).
As Episode 7 showed us, she’s not bullet-proof, but earlier on in the run we do get to witness how powerful a Synth can be when she wrenches a doorknob from a door, after Millican locks her in a room. Nice to see she has a handle on the situation, eh? Eh! Handle? Door? Hello. Is this thing on…
Laura and Tom
It’s a purely human moment amid all the E-motion and, wow, it packs a wallop.
Katherine Parkinson’s performance makes you feel every moment, as Laura tells Mattie (and us) that Tom is her late brother, and that her inability to save him has defined much of life.
Karen’s a Synth!
When his partner Jill throws him out, Pete’s chummy copper confidant Karen seems to be the one human he can trust. After a spot of dinner and wine, she bids him goodnight, locks the door to her room, then unhinges her jaw and pulls out a sack of masticated meal. Oh my word, she’s a Synth!
It’s one of Season 1’s stand-out surprise moments. Although really we should have guessed she wasn’t human earlier on: she was drinking wine out of a tumbler instead of a wine glass, the fiend. Classic mistake.
