No Game of Thrones season is complete without a few shocks along the way.

Here we count down Season 5’s most shocking moments…

 

5. Cersei is arrested

After concocting yet another scheme to remove those who opposed her, Cersei felt particularly pleased with herself when she successfully engineered the arrest and imprisonment of Loras and Margaery Tyrell.

However, the smirk was promptly wiped from the Queen Regent’s face when she found herself thrown into a cell of her own.

 

6. Cersei’s walk of shame

After some careful contemplation, Cersei decided to ‘confess’ her crimes in the hope of winning back her freedom. Her plan worked and the High Sparrow agreed to let her return to the castle and to her son, King Tommen. There was one condition.

Cersei would have to walk naked all the way back whilst the cries of ‘shame, shame’ and the taunts and jeerings of the watching crowd rang in her ears. It was an immensely powerful scene that emphasised the vulnerability of Cersei.

 

7. Myrcella dies

In one of those classic heart-wrenching moments that television drama is so fond of, we watched as Jaime and Myrcella shared an emotional scene together for the first time as father and daughter.

However, their jubilation was short-lived when Myrcella succumbed to a terrible poison and appeared to die before Jaime could save her.
