A year after the initial teaser for the return of Star Wars, the first full-length trailer for The Force Awakens has been posted online.
The release of merchandise, set trivia and clandestine behind-the-scenes footage has fired the appetite of galactic enthusiasts, as well as provoking a handful of indignant claims that the speaking dolls are spewing plot spoilers.
Nonetheless, the trailer threw up more questions than answers – none more so than the ensuing absence of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker – and speculation has reached fever pitch.
One aspect of the upcoming film that the trailer did reveal was the role of a particular British site in the Lake District. Excitable locals quickly took to social media to identify the rippling stretch of water over which Poe Dameron and his CGI X-wing-mates are show hovering for a nano-second as Derwentwater Lake in Cumbria.
Much of The Force Awakens has been filmed on UK soil, fuelling the excitement of British fans. In addition to Derwentwater, the largest of the two craggy Skellig Islands off the Western coast of Ireland became the resting place of the elusive Luke. The delectably named Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean was also a filming location, having already hosted the crews behind Doctor Who, Merlin and Atlantis.
GoEuro, the the search engine for comparing and booking flights, has compiled a comprehensive infographic identifying the filming locations across the globe, and fans such as Jason Ward from MakingStarWars.net have attempted to piece together a potential plot thread from these dispersed locations.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit UK cinemas on 17 December.
