The rebellion begins… soon!
With just a week to go until the series launches, we’ve taken a look at the latest promo material for Andor.
Taking its name from the pilot of Rogue One, the story takes place five year before. It aims to show the birth of the rebellion against the Empire and how Cassian Andor (Gabriel Luna) became the ruthless rebel we saw.
Ahead of its triple episode drop premiere on September 21st, there’s now a further, shorter (final?) trailer too.
“Spies. Saboteurs. Assassins. We’ve all done terrible things on behalf of the rebellion.”
With flashes of the main players we already know, Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), the trailer lures us in with Stellan Skårsgard’s Luthen Rael and his first meeting with Cassian Andor.
Then, it broadens out to show the scope of the conflict, from the political sphere to civil disobedience on the streets.
Disney+ Day’s Special Look
In all the excitement of the D23 Expos trailers, we rather overlooked the Disney+ Day. Andor received a nine minute “special look” promo.
Fronted by comments from showrunner Tony Gilroy and Gabriel Luna, its main focus was preview of that first, pivotal encounter between Luthen and Cassian which we’ve enjoyed slices of in various trailers.
Having contracted him to do a job, stealing some tech from the Empire, the pair meet for the trade-off. However, it is soon clear that Luthen knows a lot about Cassian’s past and that he’s in the market for far more than just stolen goods.
That conversation is, naturally, curtailed by an impressive firefight with the Empire which involves lots of crashing machinery!
New Character posters
As with previous shows, Disney+ are providing a series of smart character posters. We imagine more will follow across the series’ ten weeks of release, but Cassian Andor, Mon Mothma and Luthen Rael are the first.
Star Wars: Andor lands on Disney+ with that three-episode premiere on September 21st. After that, nine further episodes drop on subsequent Wednesdays.
