Disney Plus released a trailer for the 2024 series of Doctor Who at 10am PT on May 22. The official Doctor Who YouTube channel followed two hours later with the same trailer.
The trailer began with a scene from the series finale with the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) landing at UNIT headquarters and the Doctor exclaiming “Give me the loving!”
A few scenes stood out from each episode. The Doctor and Ruby encounter dinosaurs and — a butterfly in Episode One of the series. Oddly, when Ruby wonders about the butterfly effect theory, it is demonstrated in real time to humorous effect.
Fans will have to wait to see how Ruby is restored to her human self. Later in the episode, the Bogeyman, who appeared in the first trailer, makes another appearance to terrify the Doctor and Ruby.
In the second Episode, The Devil’s Chord. Jinkx Monsoon appears as a musical villain who can wrap people in Music. This episode is set in the 1960s and the Beatles make an appearance.
Episode Three is heavily rumoured to be written by Steven Moffat. The episode is described as explosive and Hitchcockian.
Episode Four co-stars Aneurin Barnard as Roger ap Gwilliam, Jemma Redgrave as UNIT Chief Scientific officer Kate Stewart, who observes that “Things seem to be turning more and more supernatural.” Neither actor appears in scenes for this episode in the trailer. Some atmospheric and sombre scenes of the TARDIS on a ocean cliff were shared.
There is only one known scene from Episode Five in the trailer. A young woman warily eyes a monster seen in the first trailer for the 2024 series.
Episode Six, written by Kate Herron and Briony Redman, is set in the Regency period with a Duchess (Indira Varma) who morphs into a bird creature. Jonathan Groff, not pictured in the latest trailer, is said to add roguish charm to this episode.
The two-part finale consists of Episodes Seven and Eight. Among the scenes is one that depicts an array of equipment which can create snow.
And a dramatic action scene with the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Mel (Bonnie Langford) on an orange scooter.
Kate Stewart and UNIT feature heavily in the finale. Fans get a first glimpse of Lenny Rush’s character and another glimpse of Yasmin Finny as Rose Noble.
A full trailer breakdown is coming this week.
