Introduction

Nobody ever said that the movies you should watch should only be rom-com or action movies. You could also take the time to watch a good old Sci-Fi movie that would make you question your reality by the end of the movie.

You can stream most of these movies online, provided that you have a brilliant internet service, such as the likes of Spectrum Internet. However, if you already have the connection and have any further queries, feel free to contact Spectrum Customer Service at any time!

Keep reading ahead to find out about some of the essential Sci-Fi movies that you can’t miss out on, no matter what!

Gravity

How scary would it be if you were an astronaut who went on a space mission and, due to some technicalities, got stranded in space? That is exactly what happens in Gravity, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

The film is a cinematic masterpiece that gives you an insight into human perseverance when it comes to surviving. Both of the scientists make it their life’s goal to make it back to Earth in one piece despite being ejected from their spacecraft!

The Martian

All of us know what an amazing actor Matt Damon is, right? With movies such as the Bourne Series, we can’t help but swoon over his acting skills. This is exactly why we had to add The Martian to this list because the movie is just as brilliant as all his other works.

The Martian is about yet another astronaut who is left on the planet Mars and presumed dead by his crew. This results in them leaving him behind, and he becomes stranded on the planet all alone. Here begins his adventure to survive and sustain himself.

He eventually finds a way to use all his resources for his sustenance and the movie gives you an idea of what it would be like if you had to survive alone on an entire planet, that too on Mars.

Palm Springs

Who comes to your mind when we say words like “Noice!” and “Toit!”? Andy Samberg, of course, with his role as Detective Jake Peralta in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. However, we won’t be talking about Brooklyn Nine-Nine here. Instead, we will be talking about another movie that Andy stars in called Palm Springs.

Even though this is a comedy like Andy’s other movies, this one has a Sci-Fi touch to it as well. In this movie, Nyles (Andy Samberg) finds himself stuck in a loop while attending a wedding until he meets the bride’s sister Sarah (Cristin Milioti), who also finds herself stuck in the same loop over and over again as the day just keeps repeating itself.

You would have to watch the movie to see how they get out of the loop (or if they don’t…..)

Robocop

Even though this movie came out back in 1987, it was still way ahead of its time. The concept of the movie was very unique, something that you can’t expect people to come up with in today’s time.

The movie shows a nearly torn Detroit where a corrupt organization comes into contract with the government to control the police force so that their cyborgs can replace the human officers.

The company decided that it would use the body of a recently deceased officer, Alex Murphy, so that they could turn him into a robot-cop called Robocop as an experiment. Eventually, Robocop becomes too aware of himself and figures out the notorious intentions of his creators.

He then sets on a mission to put a stop to the organization so that he would make justice prevail in Detroit. The movie is definitely a timeless classic that you shouldn’t miss.

Fun Fact: Robocop was actually brought to Stan Lee, who had just watched Terminator. Stan Lee turned the idea for a comic down saying “You’re never going to top that!”

Tron

Tron is one of those movies that doesn’t really get the recognition it deserves. This movie was also released in the 80s and was ahead of its time. It is about a programmer and video game developer who becomes stuck in a mainframe computer and finds out that a whole world exists there too!

The movie is pretty perceptive as it shows you how amazing it is to be human, and one of the most iconic things about the movie will always be the stunning visuals and cinematics that are just as beautiful even today.

Fun Fact: Tron was also featured in Disney-collaborated video games such as Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts II.8 HD

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

“Get to the Chopper!!!”

While this line might be from Predator, there is only one actor and one voice that comes to mind. Arnold Schwarzenegger ofcourse! Arnold starred in this super iconic movie called Terminator 2: Judgment Day as he reprises his role as a cyborg sent from the future.

In this movie, he is sent to kill a young boy called John Connor, who will lead the human resistance in the future. However, things take a different turn, and the Terminator instead begins saving the kid from other threats.

One of the things that really made the movie stand out from the rest was the visual aesthetics and VFX that not only shook audiences back in the 80s but also shocked us even today. All that melting metal and ruthless destruction will just drop your jaw in absolute awe.

Interstellar

How could we continue this list without mentioning one of the best Sci-Fi movies of all time, Interstellar? The movie shows Earth a couple of years from now and how it has suffered from an Environmental perspective, almost making it inhabitable.

A former NASA pilot is sent on a space mission through a wormhole so that he can find a new planet where people can start a new civilization all over again. Interstellar explains how the concept of time changes when you are in space and how even spending a few hours on one planet is equivalent to spending 23 years on Earth because of time dilation.

The film goes in tandem with the theoretical physics perspective as it explains how gravity has a huge impact on how time functions across space.

Fun Fact: Making Interstellar involved the introduction of new technology. They developed new CGI only so that they could make the movie!

Summing it All Up

In the end, watching a good Sci-Fi movie really helps exercise your brain because you need to think critically to make sense of what is going on in the movie. So be sure to watch all the Sci-Fi movies that you can. Who knows, you might develop a taste for them.
