The production stars Jacob Anderson (Doctor Who’s ill-fated Danny Pink) as Louis de Pointe du Lac, with Sam Reid (The Newsreader) as Lestat de Lioncourt. The cast also includes Bailey Bass (Avatar: The Way of Water) as Claudia, Eric Bogosian (Succession) as Daniel Molloy and Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino).
Here’s the synopsis for Interview with the Vampire:
It follows Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt and Claudia and their epic story of love, blood and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy. Chafing at the limitations of life as a Black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestat’s offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louis’ intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement.
A second series, continuing the book’s adaptation across a further eight episodes, was in production before the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
The story was previously brought to the big screen in 1994 by director Neil Jordan. That version starred Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, Brad Pitt and Christian Slater.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says:
“Interview with the Vampire is a sumptuous, sensual, complex and disturbing treat. Anchored by the charismatic lead performances of Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, the series stays true to the gothic spirit of Anne Rice’s eternally popular novels, whilst sympathetically re-imagining her world for a new generation.”
Interview with the Vampire will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
