Writer Pete McTighe says he’s been approached by production companies interested in making Doctor Who.

McTighe has written several episodes of Doctor Who, most recently Lucky Day. He was also the co-writer of the Doctor Who spin-off The War Between the Land and the Sea.

McTighe has extensive showrunner experience with shows like Wentworth and The Pact.

Phil Cannon sat in on a panel on Doctor Who box sets moderated by by Chris Berezai with Paul Vanezis, Mark Ayres, Toby Hadoke and Pete McTighe at the Whooverville 17 convention in Derby September 5, 2026. He described what McTighe said on the Who’s He? podcast.

“Pete McTighe did say that some production companies have approached him to partner with them to tender for the next series.”

The competitive tender process for Doctor Who begins when the BBC posts a document on their Commissioning website. The document is an Invitation to Tender (ITT). The ITT will describe the parameters for what is expected from any production company pitching to produce Doctor Who. The BBC will choose a production company after reviewing each pitch.

The BBC announced its intention to post the Doctor Who Invitation to Tender on June 10, 2026, with a plan to offer the tender some time “this year”, the details to be announced “in due course.”
