The Running Man – What we know about Edgar Wright’s new film

The first trailer for Edgar Wright’s take on The Running Man dropped earlier this year, here’s what we know about the upcoming dystopian film.

Since being announced, information about the latest adaptation of the Stephen King novel has slowly been released. The latest of which is a featurette for the movie set to release later this year.

What’s it about?

In the near future, a popular TV show called The Running Man broadcasts a “Runner” being hunted by a team of “Hunters” who must track them down and kill them. If the runner survives for 30 days, they win $1 billion. The Running Man will follow Ben Richards (Glen Powell), who enters the game as a last resort to save his sick daughter.

The Running Man was previously adapted in a 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a framed cop put into the game as a final chance for freedom.

Who’s in it?

The confirmed cast includes Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Josh Brolin (Weapons), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Lee Pace (Foundation), Jayme Lawson (Sinners), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Emilia Jones (CODA), William H. Macy (Fargo), David Zayas (Dexter), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Daniel Ezra (All American), Karl Glusman (Nocturnal Animals), Simon Haines (Knightfall), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), Sandra Dickinson (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), George Carroll (Joker: Folie à Deux), Martin Herlihy (Please Don’t Destroy) and Sophie Simnett (Daybreak).

Who’s behind it?

Edgar Wright is set to direct, he’ll also produce alongside Nira Park (The World’s End) and Simon Kinberg (The Martian). Wright’s production company Complete Fiction will collaborate with Kinberg’s Genre Films. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film.

When’s it out?

The film is set to release November 14th this year.
