The showrunner confirms that the deal for The Sandman’s second run is already in place.
With fan concerns triggered over the past couple of days, thanks to a Deadline piece discussing behind-the-scenes financial tensions between Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix, The Sandman‘s creator has taken to social media to confirm that The Sandman Season 2 is definitely on track.
The Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav is apparently unhappy with the way that Netflix deals are structured; programme makers are apparently remunerated over an 18 to 24 month period.
However, to the relief of many, Neil Gaiman confirms that the corporate issues won’t affect his show. He said: “Sandman Season 2 has been commissioned by a Netflix and is real. Whatever behind the scenes wrangling and negotiating needed to happen to make this a reality has already occurred.”

The show, which landed on the streamer in August, suffered a seemingly interminable wait for a recommission. That news finally broke last month, despite it reportedly achieving 200 million hours viewed across its first ten days.
While we don’t yet know what parts of the comic run Season 2 will adapt, Gaiman announced the second run saying:
“There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). “Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: They are the biggest Sandman fans there are. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”
We’ll keep you posted on The Sandman Season 2.
In the meantime, there’s ten episodes (plus those two bonus instalments) to enjoy on Netflix.
