The series, based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles, is dropping onto ITVX in two parts.
ITV’s epic new Arthurian adaptation, The Winter King, is being lined up for a festive streaming release.
Taking a leaf out of the Netflix playbook, the 10-part series will land on streamer ITVX in two chunks: episodes 1 – 5 appear on 21st December, 2023, with episodes 6 – 10 released on December 27th.
The series, drawn from the Warlord Chronicles novels of Bernard Cornwall, stars Iain De Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan). Set in the fifth century, amid a brutal land of warring factions and tribes, it follows Arthur Pendragon’s evolution from an outcast to a legendary warrior.
Iain De Caestecker plays Arthur Pendragon, while Eddie Marsan is High King Uther and Nathaniel Martello-White plays Merlin. The show also stars Ellie James as Nimue, Stuart Campbell as Derfel, Daniel Ings as Owain, Valene Kane as Morgan, Jordan Alexandra as Guinevere and Simon Merrells as Gundleus.
The wider cast includes Steven Elder, Andrew Gower, Aneirin Hughes, Emily John, Tatjana Nardone, Ken Nwosu and Billy Postlethwaite.
The Winter King comes to ITV from Bad Wolf, in association with One Big Picture. The show is a co-production with MGM+, who began screening it in August. While we’ve yet to see an ITV trailer, here’s the one from MGM+.
