Toby Sebastian Returns to the Big Screen in “Coffee Wars”

Toby Sebastian is a fan favorite British actor. The 31-year-old burst onto the scene with his portrayal of Trystane Martell in “Game of Thrones” on HBO. He also turned heads when he portrayed the legendary singer Andrea Bocelli, alongside Antonio Banderas, in “The Music of Silence.”

Now, Toby, who is a multitalented singer-songwriter as well, is back to star in the new movie “Coffee Wars.” And we couldn’t be happier to see him again.

What Is “Coffee Wars” About?

“Coffee Wars” is a film about Jo (played by Kate Nash), a barista who owns a vegan coffee shop and is passionate about veganism and animal rights. Jo grew up on a farm and adopted a vegan lifestyle when her beloved dairy cow was slaughtered. She saw the suffering that farm animals go through and the negative impact that meat and cheese cultivation have on the environment. As a result, she decides to make a major lifestyle change.

In the movie, Jo is at risk of losing her coffee shop, so she decides to enter the World Barista Competition in pursuit of a generous cash prize that will save her business. There’s only one major obstacle standing in her way: Rudy, a champion barista and dairy milk afficionado played by Sebastian.

Who Does Toby Sebastian Play in “Coffee Wars”?

Rudy is Jo’s arch nemesis. He is a former World Barista Competition champion who makes delicious dairy lattes. His coffee shop, which serves dairy lattes, is doing so well that there are lines out the door. Rudy taunts Jo because he wants her prized espresso machine. If she loses the competition, Rudy—with his crazy handlebar mustache—will get to keep it. She can’t risk that.

In one hilarious scene, Rudy orders an oat milk latte with a swan design in it. He doesn’t believe Jo can do it, but she serves him a perfect swan that’s tasty to boot. He is stunned.

At the competition, Rudy and Jo go head-to-head. While Rudy is the former champ, that doesn’t mean anything. At a past competition, Jo got so angry that she threw a saucer at a judge. Whoops! Hopefully, this time around, she can keep her cool and defeat Rudy. But you’ll have to watch to find out.

When you see “Coffee Wars,” you’ll love to hate Rudy. But also, he’s cute and kind of charming, so you can’t, really. What you will be doing is rooting for Jo, and thinking, hey, maybe Rudy will come around to the fact that vegan milk is just as good as dairy milk. Perhaps he’ll see the light. Regardless, Sebastian is the animating force behind Rudy, the factor that makes him such an effective, memorable character, even if he is technically the film’s antagonist.

Make sure that before you tune into “Coffee Wars,” you catch up on all your Trystane Martell scenes to prepare for some Toby Sebastian goodness. Hey, you may even want to hold a Toby marathon! Just make sure that you have your lattes – with vegan milk, of course – in hand when you sit down to watch.
