Daniela Nardini (This Life) plays Helen in The Fades, writer Jack Thorne’s new fantasy horror series, which begins on BBC Three tonight.
CultBox recently caught up with Daniela at the show’s launch in London to find out more…
Can you tell us a bit about your character?
“I play Helen, who’s a vicar. She’s one of the Angelics and all the Angelics have special powers. Helen’s special power is healing, so she sort of performs exorcisms on people and draws their sickness or illness out of them and it comes out of her in a way that you’ll have to watch to find out.”
What attracted you to the role?
“I was first attracted to the script because it’s so different from anything I’d read. I love [writer] Jack Thorne’s work; he’s really witty and incorporates a lot of humour but a lot of drama as well and a lot of very supernatural weird elements.”
Are you a fan of the horror genre yourself?
“I’m a real wuss when it comes to watching horror films. I kinda love them, but I’m behind a cushion. I’d just love to do a full-on horror film, it’s the best fun.”
Are you pleased with how the show has been realised on screen?
“I think visually it’s amazing. I know we didn’t have some crazy American budget and I think the people involved in the special effects have just done a fantastic job. Hopefully people will find it really exciting to watch.”
