While the first season of Preacher offered fans a slow-burn way into the show’s off-kilter world, season two has so far stuck much closer to the comics while still throwing some surprises in for existing fans.
Now, the show is introducing new villain Herr Starr (Pip Torrens), who will impact the lives of Jesse, Cassidy and Tulip as the season continues.
Cooper told Digital Spy:”Herr Starr completely changes everything, turns everything on its head. He’s the key, he opens all the avenues and enlightens and explains everything for Jesse.
“Everything up to now has been a mission that might be completely futile, but Herr Starr confirms – because of The Grail and where it’s from – the existence of this entity that Jesse’s trying to discover, so it’s massive. What Herr Starr then manipulates Jesse into doing… how he plays on his self-righteous belief, that takes Jesse onto a whole new level of egotistical madness.”
This arc will seemingly continue until the end of the second season and beyond, as Cooper hints, potentially leading to a popular storyline from the Preacher comics.
“I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s such a shock, and was such a shock for us when we read it,” Cooper continued. “Something happens that is going to missively determine, if we get to do it, the third season. It’s going to introduce, out of necessity, a part of the comic that I think everyone will be dying to see.”
