The star will play a young woman who was raised in a life of crime.
Apple TV+ is welcoming Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) back for a second time. She’s going to lead a ‘limited series’ adaption of Marissa Stapley’s New York Times bestseller Lucky.
The star has already filmed the thriller The Gorge for the streamer, alongside Miles Teller and Sigourney Weaver.
Lucky comes from Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company. The series creator is by Jonathan Tropper (See), who will co-showrun with Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda).
The story, a 2021 pick for Reese Witherspoon’s book club, follows a young woman who was raised in a life of crime but has left that world behind. She must embrace her darker, criminal side one more time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.
Anya Taylor-Joy takes an executive producer credit on the series via her company LadyKiller. As do Tropper and Pappas via Tropper Ink. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce for Hello Sunshine.
Anya Taylor-Joy said:
“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life.”
Reese Witherspoon said:
“Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections — to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel to audiences around the world.”
We’ll keep you posted on Lucky as more details emerge.
