John Boyega is to produce Attack the Block 2 — ten years after the movie that first brought him to public awareness
Attack the Block in 2011 is littered with easter eggs for classic British science fiction writing (including John Wyndham), but it better remembered for launching John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker. Nick Frost make an appearance as well in the story of a London block of flats under attack from alien invaders. Since 2011 the two stars have gone on to greater things, including Star Wars, Small Axe (for which Boyega won a Golden Globe), Broadchurch and Doctor Who.
Boyega is reuniting with writer/ director Joe Cornish, as well as producers Nira Park and James Wilson. Boyega will reprise his character of Moses. The original film’s cast is impressive: apart from Boyega himself, Frost and Whittaker it also starred Luke Treadaway, Alex Esmail, Danielle Vitalis, Leeon Jones, Franz Drameh, and Simon Howard. At this point we’ve no information as to any other returning cast members — we imagine Nick Frost is likely. Jodie Whittaker’s availability around Doctor Who is the perennial subject of rumours, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates.
