A Babylon 5 reboot is happening, and J Michael Straczynski is writing the pilot (and hopefully more)
While any details on casting / storyline / characters are very much to be determined, the central news is a Babylon 5 reboot is very much happening, thanks to the CW. Fans will also be delighted to read J Michael Straczynski (JMS) is very much central to this new take on his original show.
JMS has been publicly trying to get the new Doctor Who showrunner job (which another Three Letter Acronym RTD has come back to) and we can already foresee many articles comparing the two ‘returns’ to old glories. In the meantime, what do we actually know?
What is J Michael Straczynski saying about the Babylon 5 reboot?
JMS is very busy on social media (which is where we learned of his interest in the Doctor Who showrunner role). On his Twitter (@straczynski), he said this to say about the return of his most famous show:
To answer all the questions, yes, it’s true, Babylon 5 is in active development as a series for the CW. We have some serious fans over at the network, and they’re eager to see this show happen. I’m hip deep into writing the pilot now, and will be running the series upon pickup.
It’s worth reading the whole thread, for more insight.
He also made this plea:
Once again everyone, however well-intentioned, please don’t make suggestions on story, arcs or casting as they are problematic for me and, again, guarantee that I won’t be able to do the very thing you would like to see.
We look forward to bringing you (a lot more) news on this as it moves forward.
