The series promises a reimagining of the Batman mythology.
The story of Batman has enjoyed repeated tellings across all sorts of formats. From his comic book origins to blockbuster movies from the likes of Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan.
Bruce Wayne’s brooding alter ego has also been well served in cartoon form too, with animator Bruce Till involved in shows such as Batman – The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. That’s in addition to a long series of DC animated movies.
Now Till has teamed up with J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and Matt Reeves, the director of the latest big screen outing for The Batman, to reimagine the Batman mythology.
Here’s the synopsis for Batman: Caped Crusader:
Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.
The show has attracted an impressive cast to surround Hamish Linklater (Manhunt) in the central role of Bruce Wayne. It includes Jamie Chung, Diedrich Bader, Christina Ricci, Minnie Driver, Mckenna Grace, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, John DiMaggio, Paul Scheer, Reid Scott, Tom Kenny, Jason Watkins, Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Donohue, David Krumholtz, Haley Joel Osment and Toby Stephens.
The series comes from Warner Bros. Animation, JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Abrams, Reeves and Bruce Till all executive produce, alongside Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.
Batman: Caped Crusader series 1 lands at Prime Video on Thursday, August 1 2024 with 10 episodes.
