Following the television debut of the delightful Peter Pan Goes Wrong last year, Mischief Theatre Company followed that up with A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong on the BBC this Christmas. In both cases, they brought the anarchy they’ve harnessed on stage (most notably with the West End hit The Play That Goes Wrong) to the television screen.
Now, though, the Company wants more television projects. And in particular, it has its eye on a full series of Goes Wrong episodes.
As Jonathan Sayer of Mischief Theatre Company told the Radio Times, “we would dearly love to do a series of things that go wrong”.
“It gets easier – if you’ve got to write six or seven of them, you can call back jokes and laughs week-on-week”.
Sayer wants people to become more familiar with the characters, because once the audiences know them, “you can start having a huge amount more fun”.
“Because at the moment we’ve got a Christmas show every twelve months – you’ve got such a small window of opportunity to really tell people who the characters are and make sure they shine through”.
The plan is in its early days, and the BBC hasn’t as of yet confirmed a series. But we dearly hope it does…
