Peaky Blinders and Bloodlands star Charlene McKenna leads the cast of Clean Sweep.
Ever on the hunt for a quality import, the BBC acquired the Irish thriller series Clean Sweep. The show comes to BBC Four and the iPlayer later this year.
Here’s the synopsis:
Inspired by true events, Clean Sweep follows a seemingly ordinary housewife, Shelly Mohan (Charlene McKenna), a mother of three married to a Garda detective (Barry Ward). On the surface, all seems normal until her dark past comes back to haunt her.
Shelly makes the fatal decision to kill her former partner in crime when he resurfaces and threatens to expose her. Shelly’s detective husband is assigned the job to find the killer. The pressures mount as the noose tightens, all while Shelly is also trying to deal with her unfaithful husband and an ailing son.
The show’s creator is Gary Tieche (Preacher, I Know What You Did Last Summer), who wrote it with Fran Harris. The directors are Ronan Burke and Yves Christian Fournier.
Clean Sweep was produced by ShinAwil and Incendo.
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, said:
“Clean Sweep is a gripping psychological thriller – BBC viewers will be hooked by Shelly, and how she copes with all of the repercussions of her secret life.”
While it’s too early for a BBC trailer, there’s one up on the ZDF Studios website (they’re the international distributor). Plus, a shorter one from RTÉ .
Additionally, there’s a good interview on the RTÉ website if you want to know more about the show and its star.
